Decreasing interest in pet vaccines

According to the Vet record from September 2019 we are currently at a record low of the number of pets being vaccinated in the UK.

Nearly a third of all pets are not boostered regularily and the proportion of dogs, cats and rabbits receiving their primary vaccination course fell by 18% in the last 3 years!

Trouble is, that although we see diseases like parvovirosis, leptospirosis and distemper much less often, it does not mean that they do not exist any more! This is mainly due to a “carpet vaccination” by responsible owners.

Common reasons for owners opting not to vaccinate their animals are quoted as:

  • vaccines being too expensive
  • vaccines forgotten
  • false or misleading information about the “danger” of vaccines
  • common belief that puppy vaccines last a life long

If you have your pet vaccinated here, you should receive a vaccination reminder in plenty of time before your animal's next annual booster is due. Why not come to our vaccine clinic on Thursdays between 12:00 and 1:00 pm? At the time of vaccination we usually give your pet a once over and you have also the chance to ask questions or have “that lump” checked (e.g.).

Good to know

Covid-19 latest

We have received a lot of positive feedback from our clients regarding our appointment system which has been in place since the start of the pandemic. The main advantages of this system other than keeping us all safer, are:
  • no overcrowding of the car park
  • reduced waiting times
  • less stress for the animals
We therefore decided as a practice to stick to our appointment only system and not to return to open surgeries even in a post pandemic environment.
